Battlezone II 1.3 Public Beta 2 Released
Februrary 28, 2006
At last, 2 years after Public Beta 1, the v1.3 Beta developer and beta-test team has released 1.3 Public Beta patch 2 (PB2) for Battlezone II ™ to the community. This is a free bug and feature patch to download, of course, and all are welcome to help further test and tweak the patch so that all can benefit from its true destiny, which is to become 1.3 Final (no ETA). Great thanks to GSH (Nathan Mates) and Ken Miller, the developers, both on the original Battlezone II programming team at Pandemic Studios, in furthering the life of this 3D action game by sacrificing some of their free time developing version 1.3. It has been 4 years plus, since the formation of 1.3 started. The release of 1.3 PB2 does signify the tail end of the course of this patch's development as both developers, especially GSH, have intended to get their life back, due to all the hours they have spent on the patch. Hopefully the same goes for the 1.3 Private Beta Test team, of which I am currently a part of. Anyway, here's a snippet of GSH's official PB2 release abstract... Ladies and gentlemen, we are pleased to announce the Battlezone 2 1.3
public beta #2. This is a rather extensive patch to Battlezone 2. A
short summary of what's changed is at http://www.visi.com/~nathan/bz2/bz2_13.html
if you want to read that. This beta is released as a 29MB (29,736
kilobyte, 30449664 byte) .exe download. There is also a 174KB .zip of
the MP DLL source.
Note: this patch is available in English *ONLY*.
This
Battlezone II 1.3 patch comes with no warranty, to the extent permitted
by applicable law. Except when otherwise stated in writing the
copyright holders and/or other parties provide the package "as is"
without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied, including,
but not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability and
fitness for a particular purpose and the accuracy of the information
contained within it. The entire risk as to the quality and performance
of the package is with you.
In addition, it is *highly
recommended* that you install this patch to a directory with a fresh
[re]install from CD to avoid problems from leftover MODs, etc. Please
do NOT install over 1.2 if at all possible. Forum, website and file mirrors can be found at http://www.bzuniverse.com.

Quake IV Goes Gold Mid-October
At
last, the next sequel in Id Software's popular Quake franchise dawns
near. Get your itchy trigger finger ready and prepare to blast the
Stroggs outta the galaxy. Actually, Quake IV is more or less a
rehash of Quake II, which released back in 1997. The big
difference though is that Quake IV is donned in Doom III's gaming
engine, much highly advanced than that of Quake II's (although there is
a graphics mod in the works for Quake II itself --- and I've used it
and it makes Quake II even more gorgeous, wow --- to get up to par with
the latest DirectX versions, but ahem, that's another article). I
will try to get some Quake IV images into my Gallery (see Main Menu).
Anyway, here's an abstract for Quake IV ---
ID Software, Raven Software and Activision Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) have confirmed Earth's
invasion of Stroggos with the announcement that QUAKE 4 PC has entered
manufacturing and will begin shipping to retail stores nationwide on
Tuesday, October 18. The long awaited sequel to QUAKE II, QUAKE 4
enlists gamers in the role of Matthew Kane, a member of the Earth
Defense Forces legendary Rhino Squad, to penetrate deep into the heart
of the Strogg war machine and engage in a series of heroic missions to
destroy the barbaric alien race.
"On October 18, QUAKE is dialing it up to 4.0 on the Richter
Scale with this new chapter in Earth's war against the Strogg," said
Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "Fusing an epic war-story driven
single player campaign, and fast-paced QUAKE III Arena inspired
multiplayer, QUAKE 4 delivers a gaming experience fans will be raving
about for years."
Developed by Raven Software and executive produced by id
Software, QUAKE 4 begins only moments after the events of QUAKE II,
with the Earth's fleet launching a massive offensive to the planet
Stroggos. As Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad, gamers
invade the alien stronghold, fighting alone, along side other Marines,
and in mechanized walkers and hover tanks as they encounter the Strogg
and their disturbing amalgamations of man and machine. Built on id
Software's revolutionary DOOM 3 technology, QUAKE 4 also features
fast-paced multiplayer competition modeled after the speed style and
feel of QUAKE III Arena.
For more information, fans can visit www.quake4game.com. QUAKE 4 has been rated "M" (Mature) by the ESRB.
